Alina Stelzer, MA, NCC, LPC, FVIP

Ms Stelzer is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She obtained Master of Arts Degree in Counseling Psychology from Gonzaga University, Spokane, WA. She describes her own counseling theory as having been influenced by learning from diverse clinicians and scholars whose personal and professional styles were strikingly different, but fundamentally compatible. Her clinical internship was completed at Gonzaga University's Counseling and Career Assessment Center. Immediately upon graduation, she was hired by the University as a professional counselor.

During her employment at Gonzaga University, Ms. Stelzer provided services to clients/students whose problems included: career/academic issues, eating disorders, grief and loss, depression and suicide ideation, anxiety, alcohol abuse, domestic violence, and issues with intimate partners. She also had several opportunities to lecture and make professional presentations to both students and professional staff.

Ms. Stelzer also worked for the Department of Family and Children Services where her duties included: Counseling families and children, investigating child abuse/neglect, assessment of client needs, monitoring client progress in achieving discharge goals, serving as a referral source and as a liaison between clients and community resources, counseling alcohol/drug abuse clients, counseling domestic abuse clients, testifying in courts of law.

Her work experience also include: providing counseling/psychotherapy to adults and adolescents, performing psychosocial assessments, substance abuse and domestic abuse assessments, alcohol and drug abuse counseling, parent education, and anger management education sessions.

Ms. Stelzer's counseling career began in Lesotho, Southern Africa where she taught high school Math and Science for seven years, following graduation from teacher training college. During her teaching years, Ms. Stelzer became aware of the tremendous need for counseling services in the schools. Most children were entering school with a host of unmet physical and emotional needs that interfered with their ability to concentrate and learn. With support from counselors from Lesotho College of Education, she started to provide guidance and counseling to students in all her classes.

Ms Stelzer is a member of the American Counseling Association, Georgia Licensed Professional Counselors Association, and National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors. Ms Stelzer is also a: National Certified Counselor, State-Certified Family Violence Intervention Program instructor, and Master Addictions Counselor Candidate.
