Dr. Dudley's counseling career began in 1969, when he graduated from Ohio State University. He became employed as a teacher in the public schools with a half-time appointment as a school counselor.
His graduate training was at the University of Miami, where he obtained both a Master's Degree and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. His clinical Internship was spent at Mt. Zion Hospital and Medical Center in San Francisco, where the opportunity to work closely with the world-reknowned Erik Erikson shaped his own clinical work with adults and children. He then taught at the University of Miami, both in the School of Medicine and in the Graduate School of Psychology.
Dr. Dudley came to Georgia in 1976 and held a joint appointment in Psychology and Health Services at Georgia Southern University. In 1977 he began the private practice of psychology, and in 1980 founded Atlanta Area Psychological Associates, a group which is now composed of counselors, psychologists, social workers, with offices in Marietta, Alpharetta and Forsyth County, Georgia.
AAPA is increasingly providing consultation services to corporations. Working with the CEO and his or her top reports, to transform the culture within an organization is a dynamic process which occurs in consultation with several therapists, personal development consultants, and other facilitators of personal and corporate change, result in productivity increases and /or gains in market share.
Dr. Dudley considers himself to be primarily a teacher. He consults with persons of all ages, applying principles of psychology to the problems of lifespan development. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, a Fellow and Diplomate in the American Orthopsychiatric Association, and a member of the National Academy of Neuropsychology. He and his wife of 30 years have two teenage daughters. He enjoys long distance running,backpacking, scuba diving, photography and baseball.
