AAPA is pleased to offer Recovery Group Therapy
Abstinence is only the beginning of an effective recovery process. Once sober, dealing with daily life and the struggle to stay sober can seem like it takes the fun out of life. Few alcoholics and addicts actually discover the joy, growth and fun that is possible in recovery. This group experience helps the sober indivdual learn how to live and grow in recovery, rather than just to survive and exist without drinking or drugging.
Each group meets once weekly, and meets the requirements of the Department of Human Resources Risk Reduction Program "ASAM Level I" treatment. (For more info on DHR and the DUI Evaluation program click here. ) It is offered in all three locations. If you miss a meeting in your group, you can make it up by attending one of the other groups that week, by pre-arrangement with the group leader.
The Recovery Group is for men and women, and is a closed group, which means that only people dealing with alcohol and/or drug problems are allowed in the group. All communication within the group is confidential, and group members are asked to sign a confidentiality agreement before they attend.
There are many advantages to combining a group therapy experience with other aspects of a recovery program, including:
- Get others' direct feedback about your progress, decisions and management of "risky" situations.
- Obtain support from others who are dealing with the same issues.
- Learn from the issues and difficulties others experience.
- Try out new behaviors and attitudes in a safe, accepting setting.
Locations and times of the group are:
Alpharetta: Mondays, 6:00 PM; Saturdays, 9:00 AM.
Cumming: Fridays, 6:00 PM; Sundays, 10:00 AM.
Marietta: Tuesdays, 6:00 PM; Saturdays, 9:00 AM
Our small groups give you more individual attention and allow you to really use the time constructively. We have heard that some places are charging less money but have up to 50 people in a group! In our groups, you get the individual attention you need and deserve.
